Feeling low in energy? It’s time to recharge..

Think about energy. Where does it come from besides the sun? The short answer is that the energy we encounter and use everyday has always been with us since the beginning of the universe and always will be with us. It just changes form all around us. That is called the law of conservation of energy.

Think about our body. Our body is always in a constant energy flow. We nourish ourselves to keep our bodies fueled everyday and functional. Our brain consumes about 120 g daily, which corresponds to an energy input of about 420 kcal, accounting for some 60% of the utilization of glucose by the whole body in the resting state. Damn!

If there’s so much energy flowing constantly where do we find time to recharge?

As a current full time employee devoting myself to a busy career and very active social life my energy levels run very quickly. By 6:30 pm my energy level is so low it’s even hard to think straight. Looking for techniques that can help me and other people I came up with a list of things I’ve tried before that made me feel like a human being again.

Time to recharge…

1- Our best way to rest is to sleep. During the key hours of rejuvenation our mind gets a chance to shut down its major processes and get to the business of storing much-needed information. When we don’t allow those processes to happen as they should, we jeopardize our own well-being.

2- Exercise is, as we all know, the key to get filled with serotonin and keep those endorphins running. Any type of exercise gives you that extra boost your mind needs to keep going. My favorite type is dancing – time to shake your bootie!

3- Practice being grateful. Gratitude has been linked to decreased levels of depression, anxiety, insomnia and physical illness. Gratitude as a practice has long-ranging effects, but a brief gratitude practice is still good for your mind. Making a small list of 3 things you are grateful in your daily life will instantly reenergize yourself.

4- Be around the right energy. Not only surround yourself with people who boost your energy levels up, but be around the source of energy. I’m talking about nature! Go to a river, the woods, the beach, and feel the sun a little. In one study cited in the book Healing Gardens, researchers found that more than two-thirds of people choose a natural setting to retreat to when stressed.

5- Last but not least take your mind on a mental trip. After a long day and need to re-energize, take a break and go for one quick meditation practice. Easy way to meditate here.

Bonus point – write away! There is increasing evidence to support the notion that journaling has a positive impact on physical well- being.

Hope this article helps you reach the right energy level. Not only will benefit yourself, but those around you.

Lovely Saturday all!

Love, Cristina
