Why people focus so much in the life of others?

Seriously?! I was searching for the reviews of John Mayer concert, which I attended this past Tuesday, and all I could find was that Katy Perry, his girlfriend, was on the show. Yeah, she’s great and good singer, but the details of every news article I read was something like this, “John introduced his girlfriend and asked her to join him, then gave her a sweet kiss on the cheek before they headed to their separate microphones.”

Who cares!?! Well, sadly a lot of people care about this. I didn’t find any news about the actual concert, his talent, what he said, the music he played…nothing! Yeah, New York Daily News, E Online, Us Magazine..you suck on this part! The only good reviews I found was from the fans and some old articles from Rolling Stones. Besides that, John Mayer and Katy Perry this, John Mayer and Katy Perry that. Good for them, but what happen to the good articles that talk about a great artist? 🙁

I can see how people are so fed up with the lives of others and how news like this are entertaining for some. Another example? Paul Walker died and it was very sad, but all I read from Facebook for two weeks it was about Paul Walker devastating death, but when Nelson Mandela died puff! I didn’t read anything. Tsk Tsk.

This culture is bad oriented and bad informed. We live in a culture that is far more important reading about celebrities lives than great leaders lives. We seek for a change, but we don’t try to change. Not even this single issue. I will not blame everybody for this because I’ve been victim of social media bombastic news on celebrities. I have caught myself talking about the divorce of someone who I barely know and not the most exciting book I been reading. Shame on me.

With that being said, I believe most people care too much about the lives of others, not only celebrities lives. I have known people who talk behind others back…”Oh, you know what happened to Susan? Her boyfriend cheated on her? I knew from the beginning this will happen” and blah, blah. They talk about it for weeks, even months. They talk behind their back, they form an opinion on their lives and on top of that judge them. It’s so obnoxious. I always said to people like that “I don’t want to be a part of any gossip and I don’t want to get involved”. Also, I believe that if you have something to said to someone you should speak to the person in front.

“Who gossip to you. Will gossip about you.”

So, I wonder, are people too bored with their lives? Are people interested in superficial details about others and not being well-informed? Or should I have a reality check and realized that most people love gossip? That people really like to be entertained by the failure of others to feel better about themselves? I hope not, because that will be a cruel reality. But the fact is, news like John Mayer made me realized even more that the society we live on is most focused on others instead of themselves. Is far more important to know who is dating who and what happened than their talent, the abilities and their goodness.

I don’t know about you, but I think we should stop this unpleasant behavior and start worrying about our life. Yeah, live your present, your reality and not the lives of others. New year is coming, right? I know how people love to make new resolutions, let’s start with this one: Stop focusing on the lives of others.

Give your heart then change your mind
You’re allowed to do it
Cause God knows it’s been done to you
And somehow you got through it
Alive in the age of worry
Rage in the age of worry
Sing out in the age of worry
And say worry, why should I care?

John Mayer

Hope you have a good week! 🙂

Cristina
