Do you know it takes two muscles to crinkle the eyes, two to pull up the lip corners and nose, two to elevate the mouth angle, and two to pull the mouth corners sideways for genuine smile? Well, if you didn’t know, now you do. It’s a total of 12 muscles. Your smile may actually be much more powerful and revealing than you think. The tentative smile – looks like you are smiling, but reflect uncertainty.
The “I’m uncomfortable smile” – This smile means you are smiling out of courtesy, but you’re really uncomfortable of the situation.
The flirt smile – the person looks out of the corner of the eyes, head turned. One pictures for the guys and one for the girls. 😉
The “I can’t stop laughing smile” – Eyes are nearly closed shut in laughter and the head thrown back.
Genuine smile – With any genuine smile, the muscles around the eyes contract involuntarily and a slight fold develops at the eyebrows.
The love smile – Often with a tilted head and softened eyes. This smiles conveys a desire for bond.
The “I smile although it sucks” – you put a smile even if adversity comes. Things happen!
The forced smile – Unlike the traditional smile, the mouth here is non-committal.
The “It’s the best day of my life” smile – You close your eyes, smile hysterically and do a lot of body language.
The “I can’t believe it” smile – Usually this smile in when you get a surprise. The first instinct is to be shock.
The “I’m listening smile” – This smile shows interest in what’s being said from the speaker.
Smiling with your eyes – It’s all about bringing intensity with your eyes, while the rest of your face is relaxed.
The smile for a portrait – Looks almost perfect, but is not genuine. Usually happens in prom photos and family portraits.
The “I’m not supposed to laugh, but I did” – Usually this happens when somebody falls in the floor and you can’t stop laughing, but then realized you need to stop.
The Fake Smile – You don’t want to smile and you fake it!
