My tiny victory: a real story…

The simple things in life…

As I drove away from the mechanic shop I glanced at an old lady waving at me. I rolled my window down and she asked me if I could give her a ride to the hill. Since I was on that way I say “Sure, come on in”. I thought for a second “I’m in a dangerous part of the city, what if..” but my thoughts got interrupted since she was getting in my car.

She smiled and me and told me her name. Again, I’m the worst with names. She said it twice! But, anyways she thanked me and told me “God bless you”.

We talked briefly about my car issues, where I was from, her daughter, baseball and the status of our country. She asked me “Why you decided to come back? Things aren’t good here” That made me think for a brief second, but quickly responded “I do like my country and although things aren’t as good, I’m very positive for this change.”

As you can imagine the hill was not close by. I got derailed from my drive and drove her to a grocery store a few miles from that hill she told me she was going to. It was OK. For the first time in awhile I felt I was doing something good for someone else’s well-being besides my own. Imagine if she had to walk all those miles under the sun!

I knew that I felt good and I wanted to talk to her more and know her story, but we arrived to the store. She asked me a final question “Do you smell my perfume?” I thought it was funny since her perfume invaded the car. I responded “It smells lovely”. She offered me some perfume, thanked me and sent me her blessings once again. Bye bye…

As I drove away I felt blessed for those minutes I shared with her. This experience made me think how amazing it will be if we do something great for someone new every day. Just that tiny and brief moment in my life made me feel great and I hope I did help her as she needed.

When was the last time you did something great for a stranger?Share your stories. Thanks!
