Dreams: interesting facts…

I love sleeping and I love to dream. Dreams are successions of  ideas, images, emotions, and sensations that occur involuntarily in the mind during certain stages of sleep (usually REM). The content and purpose of dreams are not definitively understood, though they have been a topic of scientific speculation, as well as a subject of philosophical and religious interest, throughout recorded history.

We can talk about dreams forever, the meaning behind them, the interest of people on them, etc.. but I decided to make it more fun.

Here is a list of interesting facts about dreams:

  • Before sleeping, 91% of your mind begins to imagine stuff you’d like to happen.
  • While sleeping, most people dream every 90 minutes, and the longest dreams (lasting 30 – 40 minutes) occur in the morning.
  • People don’t only dream in black and white, as was once believed.
  • Even though they may not remember them, everyone dreams several times a night. In fact, during a typical lifetime, we spend about six years dreaming.
  • People who have been blind from birth have dreams that are formed from their other senses (e.g., touch, smell, sound).
  • When people are snoring, they’re not dreaming.
  • Elephants (and some other animals) sleep standing up during non-REM sleep, but lie down for REM sleep.
  • You can not dream of strangers. The people you see, but don’t know, are of people you’ve seen at some point in your life!
  • Sleeping in a cold room increases chances of having a nightmare. The colder your room is, the more the chances you will have a nightmare.
  • Sometimes a dream is so realistic you had to think if it really happened or not.
  • The human brain is twice as active when you’re asleep than when you’re awake.
  • In the Greek and Roman periods, the people believed that dreams were direct messages from the gods or from the dead, and that they predicted the future.
  • In modern times, dreams have been seen as a connection to the unconscious. They range from normal and ordinary to overly  surreal and bizarre.
  • Sigmund Freud who developed the discipline of psychoanalysis, wrote extensively about dream theories and interpretations. He explained dreams as manifestations of our deepest desires and anxieties, often relating to repressed childhood memories or obsessions.
  • The most common emotion experienced in dreams is anxiety. Other emotions:  joy, anger, abandonment, fear and happiness.
  • Sexual dreams occur no more than 10% of the time and are more prevalent in young to mid-teens. Another study showed that 8% of men’s and women’s dreams have sexual content. In some cases, sexual dreams may result in  orgasms or nocturnal emissions.
  • While the content of most dreams is dreamt only once, many people experience recurring dreams, that is, the same dream narrative or dreamscape is experienced over different occasions of sleep.
  •  The visuals (including locations, characters/people, objects/artifacts) are generally reflective of a person’s memories and experiences, but often take on highly exaggerated and bizarre forms.
  • and more…but I don’t want you to get more. haha

Really interesting, right?

I believe in my dreams! That’s why I’m waiting about a while for something very important to happen.. I’m positive, I’ll get “it” in a way or another!!

Good, sometimes dreams can be a “signal” of something that you want for you or something that you have in your memory. Whatever it is, keep being positive. Thanks for stopping by!

Thanks for the sensible critique. Me and my neighbor were just preparing to do a little research about this. We got a grab a book from our area library but I think I learned more from this post. I am very glad to see such magnificent info being shared freely out there.
